Our Key Trends in Womenswear AW20
It’s always an exciting time in the shop when new season hits and this year’s autumn winter collections are welcomed with open arms. Not only does it signify the end of summer, but it also gives us a chance to look forward to all the freshness a new season brings. We can now put summer to bed and look forward to the fantastic edits and new brands for this season! Here’s a little something we’ve put together for you on what to look out for in our womenswear collection. Arm Drama With a toning down of sorts across the colour palette for this season, the strong sleeve silhouette has shown no signs of slowing down. Particularly strong is the gathered balloon sleeve, ultimately the most wearable way to show volume AND still fit under your outerwear of choice. Our Kings of Indigo Akaru jacket is fully sustainable with the cut based on the classic MA1 bomber but the sleeves are seamed and gathered with an extra long cuff. London based Meadows are known for their 80s influences and our Myrtle blouse has the air of vintage Laura Ashley with a puff wed shoulder and balloon shaping. Chief designer for Riyka Rebecca has introduced a strong, raglan shape sleeve to their Alba wear short in panels of neon lime and black. Bold Checks It’s loud, it’s proud and it’s back again. Does it really ever completely disappear from our wardrobes? Even if you’re a print avoider, checks and tartan is an easy single print for anyone to adapt and always has a real heritage vibe to it. You can play safe with a mini print or really amplify and shout it out with an oversized bold chunky check. We’ve got some out and out favourites here leading the field. Our Danish faves Baum Und Pferdgarten display it magnificently in their Bethany jacket. Simple in its chunky two-colour brown and yellow tones, it’s a super adaptable piece in an oversized fit with a thick and cosy lining, 70s inspired details with extra large cuffs. Looks perfect with denim. Staying with Baum, their Murrian shirt is in an really easy wear mini check in black and blue. Another strong sleeve silhouette coupled with classic shirt features, you can wear for a perfect Zoom meeting look. Arriving this week with a bang comes our Leon & Harper Reglisse dress. It’s your veritable one stop shop for all things tartan, an oversized cotton beauty made from panels of contrasting colour checks with a nod to the infamous grunge collection of Marc Jacobs for Perry Ellis back in 1992. Folk Influences There are certain trends that pop up every so often that are extremely adaptable into your existing wardrobe. Folk influenced prints and patterns find their way onto knitwear and separates with aplomb. Mixing warm rusts, ochres and bolder shades, cosiness is ensured through the cold winter months. Our Meadows Orchard dress in fine needlecord has a blended out, hazy floral print in leaf coloured hues and a pleasing midi length skirt. A fitted bodice and sleeve volume balances out a suits- everyone silhouette. Pair yours with suede knee boots and a chunky knit cardigan. Leon and Harper come up with killer knitwear every season that works folk styling into updated cuts. The Marche cardigan is an easy to wear chunky pieces with leather look buttons and a wide collar in a navy taupe melange and the vibrant alpaca Nineties knit has a bright pattern to offset the neutral background. Our last folk pick is Baum Und Pferdgarten’s brilliantly named Creedence polo neck with a bold Nordic all over pattern in sky blue and crea. The ultimate in building your outfit around one showstopper piece, wear yours under dungarees, with pinstripes or a satin slip skirt for relentless options.
